"Innovative organizational models are being developed by businesses everywhere to deal with the complexities of today's business world," said Richard N. Seaman. "For us, the co-presidency leadership model was appropriate given the growth, diversity and complexity of Seaman Corporation's business."
As part of the new leadership structure, which was approved by the Seaman Corporation Board of Directors, Mr. Seaman assumes the titles of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
"The idea of collaborative leadership is a concept that's actually been engrained in the culture of Seaman Corporation for many years," Mr. Seaman continued. "Cooperation among our key executives is an integral part of our operating philosophy, and we believe a structure with co-presidents will increase the level of cooperation and perpetuate our success."
He added that Mr. Crum and Mr. Williamson both were promoted to executive vice president a year ago as part of a deliberate two-year succession planning process that included attendance for both at the Harvard Business School's General Management Program.
Their progress in the succession process, Mr. Seaman said, was monitored directly by the Seaman Corporation Board of Directors to insure the future of the company--particularly in light of Seaman Corporation's record sales growth during the current fiscal year.
"Alex and John had the pulse of our current growth," he said. "Individually, they have a very high degree of competency, and together, they will actually achieve greater results with a synergy that one person could not create individually. That's extremely important for our business, which has grown so rapidly."
